PLR Articles are Commodity Products

General 9 Comments »

What do I mean PLR articles are commodity products?

What I mean is that you could easily interchange one PLR article with another or one source of PLR articles with another, and it would make no difference.

But first, a step back…

What are commodity products?

According to Wikipedia:

A commodity is something for which there is demand, but which is supplied without qualitative differentiation across a market. It is a product that is the same no matter who produces it, such as petroleum, notebook paper, or milk. In other words, copper is copper. Rice is rice. Stereos, on the other hand, have many levels of quality. And, the better a stereo is, the more it will cost. The price of copper is universal, and fluctuates daily based on global supply and demand.

In plain English, it means two things:

  1. Quality is not an issue when it comes to commodity products – it’s more or less the same across the entire range.
  2. The price of a commodity product is only determined by supply and demand.

How this relates to PLR articles

PLR articles are PLR articles are PLR articles. Where you get your PLR articles doesn’t really matter folks, as long as you keep getting articles on topics that you need.

Because come to think of it. The reason why you use PLR articles and don’t write your own content is that you don’t have time to create your own content, lend it your own “voice” and don’t care enough about the topic to do heavy research and probably you don’t care a lot about the quality either.

PLR articles are usually used as filler content.

So yes, it doesn’t matter where you got your PLR articles, as long as they meet some minimum quality standards, and are relevant to the topic of your website.

So that takes care of criteria number one – quality.

The price of PLR articles

So what should PLR articles cost? Exactly what any commodity product would cost – the lowest possible price that will allow the sellers to still make a profit and stay in business.

As the number of people selling PLR articles goes up, their prices should go down.

And seeing the number of people selling PLR articles on the web today, it seems that there are plenty of providers of PLR content.

What it means for you

The more sellers there are for PLR articles, the better for you (as a user of PLR content), because it means prices can only go down.

There will of course be a few providers who do provide unique PLR content, and they will always charge a premium price. You should use these if you want to truly stand out from your competition using strictly PLR material.

But if your goal is to get a site or blog going quickly and filling it up with content to help drive some search engine traffic, you should think about using PLR articles packs that are available at rock bottom prices. You can always add your own unique content later, if the niche proves to be a good source of income.

And speaking of rock bottom prices, why not get some free PLR articles?

What type of PLR site are you looking for?

General, PLR Basics 16 Comments »

In your quest for PLR articles, you will undoubtedly come across a lot of PLR sites. What you are going to discover is that there are more than one type of PLR sites.

  • PLR sites that sell packs or bundles of PLR articles (let’s call these “PLR packs sites”)
  • PLR sites that offer subscription or memberships (let’s call these “PLR membership sites”)

Which one is right for you?

Here are a few points that may help you decide:

PLR membership sites end up costing you more

On the other hand, the advantage of PLR packs sites is that you don’t need to  keep paying money month after month. You just arrive at the site, buy the good stuff, and take off. You pay ONCE, not again and again.

PLR membership sites make you wait for the exact content you need

… sometimes indefinitely!

Come to think of it, you are not the only customer a PLR membership site has. To stay competitive, a PLR membership site must keep creating content for a variety of niches every month. But what if your niche never gets its turn? Or has to wait a long time for its turn?

And don’t forget that you are paying good money each month to get the privilege to wait for the content you need. :-|

A PLR packs site on the other hand, can give you content for the exact topic you need, the moment you need it. If not, you can just move on to some  other site.

PLR membership sites don’t give you enough content in any given niche

How many articles do you think a PLR membership site gives you each month, in any given niche?

First of all, if and when the turn of a niche comes, it gets a very limited number of articles – say 10 or 20. That’s not enough to create a full site, though it may help to add a few articles here and there.

Both types of sites need you to rewrite the content, for best effects

But you need to pay more for membership sites. Go figure.

The thing is, PLR articles are best used as idea joggers, or skeletons for other articles. (Other uses of PLR articles)

So when you need to spend time working on every PLR article, no matter what the source, why pay more? I realize the quality of the original article affects how much time you need to spend on it, but remember that membership sites require you to pay month after month.

PLR membership sites have their advantages too

To be fair, there are situations where you may consider joining a PLR membership site as well. For example, if you have sites in a variety of niches, you may find that the articles from your PLR membership site are all useful to you, for one site or the other.

Also, because PLR memberships cost you more, typically the quality of articles is higher. And since the number of membership spots are limited, the chances of other people using the same number of articles gets greatly reduced.

Hopefully this post has given you a few ideas to consider. In my opinion, both PLR membership sites as well as PLR packs sites have their own merits and demerits. Which one you choose depends on your exact situation.

By the way, this site is a PLR packs site. Just sayin’! ;-)

Words = MONEY, honey!

General No Comments »

If you ask me what the MOST important element of a website is, I would say it’s the words.

  • The words on your web pages or blog post (aka your content) help bring in free search engine traffic that you can convert into money (via product sales, Adsense clicks, affiliate sales, and so on)
  • The words that other use to link to your site (aka the anchor text) greatly influences how high you rank in the search engines when people look for things related to what your site provides.
  • The words that you use in your pages or posts affect what people think about your site or blog. This in turn affects whether or not they subscribe to your RSS feed, or subscribe to your newsletter, or link back to your site, and so on.
  • Oh, yeah, and the keywords that you target on your site determines the quality and quantity of traffic that you get from the search engines.

So as you can see, words are probably the most important thing related to your website. Everything starts and stops with words, at least on today’s web.

It could be keyword research, it could be the words that make up your content, it could be the words that are present in your anchor texts, but the bottom line is that without proper words, you would be nowhere.

So with that said, if you want to make money with words, here is what you need to do, in a nutshell:

  1. Do proper keyword research
  2. Put more content on your web site, targeting your most profitable keywords
  3. As much as possible, try to  influence the words used in the anchor text in links pointing to your website or blog

On this blog, we will only focus on the number 2 point above – putting more and more content on your website. And in particular, we will focus on using PLR material to create as much content as possible.
