I think if you like to have a unique blog then you should write the content yourself. Yes, it's true that the search engines don't care who wrote the content but we are not only writing for the search engines, we are writing for people. So you should tweak your PLR article a little bit to make it more unique.

Well, when you have the ability to write a content then you are the best and you have more chances to have a unique blog. But undeniably you can create a unique PLR article too.

As long as Google looks at your content as being "good" -whether you write it yourself or use PLR, you'll get traffic - but you need to choose your keywords wisely in order to get that traffic. Unprofitable keywords will get you nowhere.

Well, of course the "Publisher" business model works pretty well even if you don't have PLR contents to buy. You invite general public towards your publishing portal and allow them to contribute their work with limited privileges. You being the editor, edit their jobs such as "approve", "edit (adding affiliate codes)" etc.
You can run most of the contextual ad servers. But, in the end you will have to pay Google/Yahoo or someone for the keyword marketing to send tonnes of traffic to your website.
A dollar for another.

A lot of good sense. I like the comparison between offline publishers and writers - never thought of it like that before. Thanks.
